Mission

Our Mission Today

The Restorers of Mount Carmel is formed exclusively to carry on religious, charitable, and educational activities.

The principle purposes of the Restorers, besides the spiritual, shall be, as appropriate, to:

  • Provide financial assistance to Carmel of Port Tobacco, La Plata, Maryland.

  • Help maintain the two historic buildings of the original monastery.

  • Help pay the property insurance for the entire Monastery.

On the summit of Mount Carmel, Maryland, overlooking Port Tobacco Valley, there stands today,
the restored buildings of the first convent of religious women established in the original thirteen colonies.

You can be a valued member of this historic charitable organization.  Since its founding in 1935, The Restorers of Mt. Carmel in Maryland – with ongoing support of its members - has met its mission to preserve the past, protect the present, and prepare for the future. 

The “Old Monastery” building is on the National Register of Historic Sites.  Your membership in The Restorers of Mt. Carmel in Maryland will ensure that this hallowed ground, and the Carmelite nuns who reside here, will be provided for and protected. 

Members are remembered in the daily Masses held in Our Lady’s Chapel.

  • Perpetual:  $300.00
